NIST Trustworthy & Responsible Artificial Intelligence Resource Center

Welcome to the NIST Trustworthy & Responsible Artificial Intelligence Resource Center (AIRC).

The NIST Trustworthy and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Resource Center (AIRC) is a platform to support people and organizations in government, industry, and academia—both in the U.S. and internationally—driving technical and scientific innovation in AI. The AIRC is developed to support and operationalize the NIST NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF 1.0) and its accompanying playbook.

The Resource Center includes structured access to relevant technical documents and resources to assist in the testing, evaluation, verification, and validation (TEVV) of AI; and software tools, resources and guidance.

AI RMF Knowledge Base

AI Risk Management Framework (RMF)

The AI RMF is voluntary guidance to improve the ability to incorporate trustworthiness considerations into the design, development, use and evaluation of AI products, services and systems.

AI RMF Playbook

Companion resource for the AI RMF that includes suggested actions, references, and documentation guidance to achieve outcomes for the four AI RMF functions.

Glossary

The Glossary helps promote a shared understanding and improved communication in trustworthy and responsible AI.

Engagements and Events

NIST relies on and encourages robust interactions with companies, universities, nonprofits, and other government agencies in driving and carrying out its AI agenda. There are multiple ways to engage with NIST, including:

  • Workshops: NIST convenes experts for single day, multi-day, and multi-week sessions.
  • AI Visiting Fellows: Accomplished Visiting Fellows bring thought leadership to foundational research.

Training

Opportunities to learn about building trustworthy and responsible AI through approaches like the AI RMF.

AI RMF Roadmap

The Roadmap is a companion to the Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework (AI RMF 1.0). The Roadmap identifies key activities for advancing the AI RMF that could be carried out by NIST in collaboration with private and public sector organizations – or by those organizations independently. NIST’s involvement will depend in part on resources available. Work described in the Roadmap is intended to help fill gaps in knowledge, practice, or guidance and be useful to broader audience in pursuit of trustworthy and responsible AI. Roadmap activities will change as AI technologies and experience evolve.
